Final: Salisbury 13, WC 7

Top ranked Salisbury has won it's 66th straight game, and improves to 17-0 with a 13-7 win over the eighth-ranked Shoremen.

Washington was not really able to get back into this game after falling behind in the first half. The Sea Gulls proved tonight why they are the team to beat in Div. III men's lacrosse.

The Clark Cup presentation will begin shortly, then it will be post-game work as usual.

I hope you have enjoyed this in-game blog.

Since this is my first year working at WC, it was the first time I attended the War on the Shore, and I had a blast covering it here from M&T Bank Stadium! The stadium crew here has been nothing but top notch, and a big thank you goes out to them for getting me hooked up so I could do this.

Have a great night!

2:00

We have reached the two-minute warning, and Salisbury elects to call another timeout. Many of the WC fans have left the building. The video scoreboard is keeping the fans entertained at the moment...

2:16 to go...

Salisbury has the ball and has called a timeout with 2:16 left to play.

Salisbury 13, WC 7

Eric Bishop (#13) scores the Sea Gulls 13th goal of the game with 3:55 left to make it 13-7 Sea Gulls. Mike Edwards gets the assist. This game is pretty much out of reach at this point for the Shoremen.

8:25 to go...

The Shoremen failed to clear the ball off a Salisbury turnover, and JB Clarke is furious and calls a timeout down by five with 8:25 to go.

Sea Gull fans have started the "It's all over" chant...

Salisbury 12, WC 7

Dan Boyer was left wide open in front of the WC net and connected on a goal, as J.B. Sheridan found him on a pass from midfield to make it 12-7 with 10:01 to go.

A WC comeback is becoming less likely, as the Gulls have possession and are now killing some clock.

Salisbury 11, WC 7

Ostrusky nets another goal, as WC pulls within four goals with 12:44 left in the game.

Shoremen win the faceoff...this game could have an exciting ending...

Salisbury 11, WC 6 End of Third Quarter

Creighton gets one past Thibadeau with :31 left in the third, as the Shoremen D slips up a little. Mike Edwards is credited with the assist.

Salisbury 10, WC 6

Jimmy Kielek scores his first goal of the game, as the Shoremen pull to within 10-6 with 3:15 to go in the third quarter. Washington has now netted three straight goals. The Sea Gulls have been commiting turnovers left and right on the offensive side of the ball, as the Shoremen defense has finally begun to step it up.

Salisbury 10, WC 5

Andrew Ostrusky nets a goal for Washington, and the WC fans are starting to get excited as the Shoremen have scored two unanswered goals. 5:53 left in the third quarter. If the Shoremen want to come back, they better start doing it now.

Salisbury 10, WC 3 6:40 left in 3rd

Mike Hurley scores a extra man goal, and gives the Sea Gulls a 10-3 lead. But Sam Lane answers on a 2-1 break to the net off a turnover. Lane's goal was assisted by Mike Sutter and makes it 10-4 with 6:40 to go.

Salisbury 9, WC 3

Salisbury 8, WC 2

With four seconds left in the half, Washington's Mike Sutter, who was triple-teamed, somehow gets a shot off and past Zarchin. I will post a stats update in a moment, as now we are officially at halftime.

Salisbury 8, WC 1 - :52 left in half

Ryan Rhode assists on a goal by Dan Boyer to make it 8-1 Salisbury with :52 left in the half.

7-1 Salisbury

Salisbury is pulling away...Jimmy Creighton makes the game 7-1 with 3:17 left in the half.

6-1 Salisbury, 5:46 left in 2nd

Jimmy Creighton from Mike Edwards give the Sea Gulls a comfortable 6-1 lead with 5:46 left in the 2nd qtr.

The Shoremen need to step it up and cause turnovers if they want to get back into this game. Right before the Salisbury goal, WC had two clean shots on goal, but Zarchin has been a wall so far.

Salisbury 5, WC 1

Yoder scores his third goal of the game, assisted by Ryan Rhode with 8:27 left in the second quarter. Salisbury is making the most of its opportunities, as WC head coach JB Clarke has called yet another timeout to try and get his team back into this game before it gets out of hand.

9:52 left in 2nd, Salisbury 4, WC 1

Salisbury has clearly had possesion of the ball for the majority of this game. The Washington offense can't seem to break the Sea Gull defense...when WC does have the ball on offense, shots are going wide and lots of turnovers are being caused.

The WC fans are very quiet at this juncture...not a whole lot to cheer about so far.

Stats update

Up to this point, the shots are 12 for Salisbury, 10 for WC. Shoremen are only 1-3 on clears, while salisbury is 6-8.

Salisbury 4, WC 1: 13:48 left in 2nd

Mike Hurley gives Salisbury a 4-1 lead with 13:48 left in the 2nd Qtr...

Salisbury 3, WC 1, End of 1st Qtr.

Tripping on Salisbury gives WC the first man-up opportunity of the game with :39 left in the first quarter...WC gets a good shot off before the end of the qtr, but a nice save by Zarchin keeps the game at 3-1 after the first quarter of play.

Tim Kerr Scores, Salisbury 3, WC 1

Tim Kerr from Hughes cuts the Sea Gull lead down to two goals with 5:13 left in the first.

Salisbury 2, WC 0, 5:30 left, 1st Qtr.

Ryan Rhode and Dan Boyer each put one past Thibadeau to make it a 3-0 game...Salisbury continues to put on the pressure and the WC fans are growing louder to try and help their Shoremen get back into the game...

Salisbury 1, WC 0, 7:30 left 1st qtr.

The shots are nodded at five and Salisbury is putting the pressure on the Shoremen...Salisbury's Bret Yoder almost notched his second goal of the game with a shot off the right pipe.

This game has seen three shots off the pipes and we are only halfway through the first quarter.

WC calls timeout to regroup it's defense in order to try and setup a turnover...

Salisbury 1, WC 0; 10:53 remaining 1st Qtr.

Kevin Thibadeau has made two impressive saves, but Sailsbury's Bret Yoder slipped one past the senior goalie to give the Gulls a 1-0 lead with 10:53 left in the first quarter.

WC has had four shots thus far, two of them off the pipes...

War on the Shore

Greetings from M&T Bank Stadium! I am here in the press box ready to help keep stats and cover tonight's annual War on the Shore game between #8 Washington and #1 Salisbury.

WC will be looking to put an end to the Sea Gulls current 65-game winning streak.

There are about 2,000-2,500 fans here, and they are all going nuts during the starting lineups.

I will try to keep a running blog throughout the game for those of you who aren't here.

And here we go...

And Down The Stretch They Come

It's been a long time between blog posts as Ryan and I have both been busy with the hectic spring season. Before we knew it, this week was here - the last week of the regular season for most of our spring sports.

There's a big weekend coming up for Washington College Athletics as both tennis teams will vie for Centennial Conference Championships and the men's lacrosse team batttles Salisbury in the annual "War on the Shore" for the Charles B. Clark Cup.

The women's tennis team will be the second seed in this weekend's Centennial Conference Playoffs, hosted by top-seeded Swarthmore. The Shorewomen will play Muhlenberg in the semifinals Saturday. A win would put the Shorewomen in Sunday's championship match against either host Swarthmore or Johns Hopkins.

The men's tennis team will look to regain its Centennial Conference crown, which the Shoremen won 11 years in a row before finishing second to Johns Hopkins a year ago, as the host team of the conference playoffs. The Shoremen will play a yet-to-be-determined fourth seed (either Dickinson, Gettysburg, or Franklin & Marshall) in a Saturday semifinals. A win puts the Shoremen in Sunday's championship match against either Haverford or Johns Hopkins.
Centennial Conference Men's Tennis Championship

This year's "War on the Shore" moves off of the Eastern Shore and into Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium as the game is being held in conjunction with the ACC Men's and Women's Lacrosse Tournaments. The Shoremen and Sea Gulls will clash under the lights Saturday night.
