Lutz leads off the top of the ninth with a walk. Tom Ogden pinch hitting for Tidwell. Ogden flies out to CF for the first out. Lutz advances to second on a wild pitch. Corbutt grounds out to second with Lutz moving to 3B. With Boucher up, Lutz scores on a wild pitch. Boucher grounds out to 2B to end the game.

Mejia with the win for the Garnet and Hill takes the loss for the Shoremen.

15-2 Swarthmore, End 8th

Dalane goes 6-for-6 on the day with a single up the middle to lead off the bottom of the eighth. Schneiderman reaches on an infield single to 2B on a slow roller, with Delane moving to 2B. Bernard grounded into a 6-4-3 double play with Schneiderman out at 2B. Beall made it 15-2 with a single through the right side to plate Delane. Casey dropped a double down the RF line and Beall made it to 3rd. Gill struck out swinging with Bannar tossing the ball to Anderson to end the bottom of the 8th.

14-2 Swarthmore, Mid 8th

Coveney led off for WC in the top of the eighth and ropes a double to left field, bouncing off the wall. Bannar flies out to CF on the first pitch. Kramer hits a ball that eludes the SS for an RBI single and plates Coveney from second to cut the deficit to 14-2. Tozzolo hits a fielder's choice to the 2nd baseman, Kramer out at second, but Tozzolo hustles and beats the throw. Anderson grounds to Nakamura at SS who tosses to Kooi at 2B to get Tozzolo out to end the top of the eighth.

14-1 Swarthmore, End 7th

Benjy Duke to P for WC.

Gill made the first out in his 1st AB on a popup to Lutz. Ben Mendelson into the game for Archibald reached on a fielding error by Boucher. Duke struck out Nakamura for the second out. Kooi flies out to Tozzolo for the third and final out of the frame.

14-1 Swarthmore, Mid 7th

Justin Hughes into P for the Garnet. Bernard to LF and Beall to DH. Jimmy Gill to 1B for Corso.

Anderson grounded out to 2nd to lead off the inning. Lutz got a single to center field and got to second on a passed ball. He scored the first run of the day for WC on a single to right-center off the bat of Tidwell and got to 2nd on a error. Tidwell advanced to 3rd on a flyball to RCF by Corbutt. Boucher flew out to the CF to end the top of the 7th.

14-0 Swarthmore, End 6th

Sean Maloney into pitch for WC. Jim Bannar to C, Boucher to SS from 3B and Tyler Corbutt to 3B.

Nakamura led off with a single to RF and reached second on a fielder's choice off the bat of Kooi. Dalane singled up the middle to load the bases and Schneiderman singled to right-center to make it 14-0 to plate Nakamura. Maloney then got a strikeout of PH James Bernard, PH James Beall out on a infield fly to Corbutt. Tozzolo then provided a highlight with a diving catch, robbing Casey of a multiple RBI hit.

13-0 Swarthmore, Mid 6th

WC went 3-up, 3-down in the top of the sixth. Pinch-hitter Jim Bannar (for Rifkin) grounded out to 2B and ditto with Kramer. Tozzolo flew out to RF.

13-0 Swarthmore, End 5th

Dan DeMarco replaces Coveney on the mound and Coveney returns to is DH position for the Shoremen.

Allen leads off with a walk for the Garnet. DeMarco retires his first batter as Casey flies out to Tozzolo. Corso grounds out to Lutz for the second out and Allen moves to second. Archibald flies out to Kramer in LF and Swarthmore does not score for the first time today.

13-0 Swarthmore, Mid 5th

Tidwell lined out to the SS to lead off the top of the fifth and Perret popped up to the 2B for out two. Boucher worked out a walk to avoid the 1-2-3 inning. Coveney hits a comebacker to end the top half of the inning.

13-0 Swarthmore, End 4th

Tony Tozzolo in RF for Washington replacing O'Donovan.

Nakamura reached on a fielding error by Perret. With Kooi up, Nakamura advances on a balk. Kooi grounds out to Perret, who throws out Kooi at 1B with Nakamura moving up to third base. Dalane doubles to right-center plating Nakamura to make it 13-0. Schneiderman grounds out to Boucher for out two and Dalane holding at 2B. Eisenlohr strikes out swinging to end the bottom of the fourth.

The last five runs have been unearned.

12-0 Swarthmore, Mid 4th

Rifkin led off the top of the fourth with a walk, but was erased on a 6-4 fielder's choice off the bat of Brian Kramer, who beat the throw to avoid the double play. O'Donovan popped out to Kooi for the second out. Anderson blooped a single just over the head of a leaping Kooi. Lutz flew out to CF to end the top of the fourth.

12-0 Swarthmore, End 3rd

Coveney retires Archibald on a grounder to 1B that Anderson threw to a covering Coveney to end the inning.

12-0 Swarthmore, Bot 3rd

Brian Kramer into LF for Heppard.

Kooi led off the 3rd for the Garnet and popped out to Lutz. Dalane single up the middle, the third time he has reached base today. Hines caught Schneiderman looking for the second out. Eisenlohr singled to center and Dalane advanced to 3rd and a hit and run. Allen hit a fly ball to RF that O'Donovan dropped and got to 3rd. Dalane and Eisenlohr score to make it 10-0. Casey singles to LF to plate Allen to make it 11-0. Corso drives a double down the LF line to score Casey and make it 12-0.

8-0 Swarthmore, Mid 3rd

Lutz strikes out to lead off the top of the third. Tidwell singles to RF to go 2-for-2 in his first two trips to the plate. Perret singles to RF, dropping right in front of Schneiderman just like Tidwell's hit. Tidwell moved to 2B. Boucher struck out looking on the outside corner for the second out. Coveney flied out to the CF to end the top of the third.

8-0 Swarthmore, End 2nd

Hines began his day with Schneiderman on 2nd and Allen on 1st and Casey at the bat. Unfortunately for WC fans, Casey did not strike out as he just missed a home run with a double off the left field wall scoring Schneirderman and sending Allen to 3rd to make it 6-0. Corso then pounded a single down the 3B line to score both Allen and Casey to make it 8-0. Archibald then singled to right field to move Corso to 2nd. Nakamura hit in a around the horn 5-4-3 DP to end the 2nd, but Swarthmore put seven on the board.

Hines tallied the save in the game at Swarthmore last year, an 8-7 WC win.

5-0 Swarthmore, Bot 2nd

Archibald led off the bottom of the 2nd for the hosts and after falling behind 0-2, got hit on a 1-2 pitch. Nakamura reached on a bunt single, well placed between the pitcher and first baseman to get Archibald to second. Kooi reached on a bunt single down the third baseline as the cover at 1B was late and despite a good throw by Boucher it was late. Dalane made it 3-0 on a single through the left side that scored Archibald and Nakamura and advanced Kooi to 2B. Schneiderman roped a single to left-center scoring Kooi and advancing Dalane to second. With Eisenlohr up, Dalane swiped third base. Eisenlohr got the count to 3-2, but Hill got him with the whiff (swinging) for out one. With Allen up, Swarthmore executed the double steal with Dalane scoring and Schneiderman going to second. Allen got hit by the pitch to put runners on first and second.

Kirk Hines now in the game, replacing Hill. Hill lasted just 1 1/3 innings.

1-0 Swarthmore, Mid 2nd

The weather here in Swarthmore is much cooler than in Chestertown and very low humidity.

Heppard struck out swinging to lead off the top of the second inning. O'Donovan hits a single through the left side past a diving Casey. With Anderson batting, Meija picks off O'Donovan on his second throw to 1B. Anderson strikes out swinging to end the top of the second.

1-0 Swarthmore, End 1st

Hill on the mound for the Shoremen. Dalane lines a single off the foot of Hill and the ball rolled to the first base line about 45 feet. Schneiderman reached on a sacrifice bunt that was fumbled by Hill and Dalane moved to second base. Dalane and Schneiderman advanced to third and second respectively on a passed by ball by Rifkin with Eisenlohr up. Hill got Eisenlohr on a swinging strikeout. Dalane scores and Schneiderman advances to third on an RBI groundout to second baseman Lutz off the bat of Allen to give the Garnet a 1-0 lead. Casey walks to put runners on the corners with two out. Corso laced the ball hard, but right to Lutz who flipped it to Perret to force Casey at 2B to end the inning.

Professor Karen Senecal, an accounting professor made the trip today.

0-0 Tie, Mid 1st

James Tidwell led off with a double to shallow left-center that could not be caught by the diving SS. Mejia came back to strike out Perret and Boucher and Coveney reached 1B on a hit-by-pitch. Rifkin popped out to Kooi at 2B to end the top of the first.

Washington-Swarthmore Baseball Preview

Today the Shoremen and Garnet conclude their two game series at Swarthmore. Washington leads the all-time series 46-37-2, winning the last four in the series, including an 8-2 win on Tuesday, where the Shoremen nine scored all eight runs with two outs. WC looks to go to 2-0 for the second straight year in conference play shortly.
