Thanks Winter Teams/Greetings From Virginia Beach

Before I talk about the weekend with softball, I just want to take a moment to thank the winter teams for treating me kindly during the winter season. The teams made me feel like part of the team during my travels and I greatly appreciate it! The coaching staffs were great too! You are all a great group of young ladies and gentlemen!

Greetings from Virginia Beach where the Washington College Softball Team plays Moravian and Roanoke today at 2 pm and 6 pm (moved back from 11 am and 3 pm) and Juniata and Arcadia at 9 am and 1 pm tomorrow from Princess Anne Park in Virginia Beach. The trip down last night was a pretty smooth one, about 4 hours down the Delmarva and crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. It was the first time I crossed the bridge-tunnel since July 1994. Since the last time I crossed it, they have built a second bridge as there is two-lane traffic for northbound and southbound on US 13 except at the tunnels where it is still one-lane.

To the games, Moravian went 37-9 last season and won the Commonwealth Conference of the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation (MAC). They were the runner-ups in the Salisbury Regional and are ranked 15th in the country entering the 2007 season. They will be leaving the MAC for the brand new Landmark Conference in 2007-08.

Roanoke went 38-7 and won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference with a 14-4 record. They played in the Salem Regional and placed third, losing to Emory in the semifinals of the double elimination tournament.

Juniata went 10-28 a season ago overall and 3-11 in the Commonwealth Conference of the MAC. Like Moravian, they will depart for the Landmark next season.

Arcadia went 34-9 last season and finished second in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference with a 18-4 mark. They reached the semifinals of the PAC Tournament. Three players made First Team PAC and one player garnered second team honors. Arcadia will leave the PAC for the MAC and compete in the Freedom Conference.

I want to wish all the teams playing this weekend the best luck in their contests!

I will be back with more today and tomorrow from Virginia Beach!
