Greetings From Swarthmore
Good afternoon for Swarthmore. This is my first trip to the home of the Garnet, now making Bryn Mawr the only place I have yet to visit. Today is the conference opener for both teams as the Shoremen take on the Garnet. The two teams will play on Friday in Chestertown.
The lineup is for today's game:
Washington College
1-Zach Huba (CF), 4-James Tidwell (LF), 20-Doug Lutz (2B), 15-Mike DeBartolome (C), 19-Tyler Corbutt (1B), 5-Greg Perret (SS), 29-Jim Gibbons (RF) and 3-Kirk Hines (DH). Pitching is 23-Darren Colananni
Swarthmore
2-Sammy Faeder (1B), 10-Thomas Nakamura (SS), 15-Travis Allen (DH), 27-Jimmy Gill (RF), 12-Conor Casey (3B), 4-Scott Delane (CF), 7-Grant Yoshitsu (LF), 8-Andy Bender (C) and 3-Wiley Archibald (2B). Pitching is 6-Justin Chen.
More to come from suburban Philadelphia, the city that made Sudlersville native Jimmie Foxx famous. Foxx played for the Philadelphia A's from 1925-35 and helped the A's win two World Series titles in 1929 and 1930 and a American League pennant in 1931. Foxx was the first three-time winner of the modern day MVP award, which began in 1931. Foxx won it in 1932 and 1933 with the A's and in 1938 with the Boston Red Sox. This now officially has Kyle Leach's stamp of approval! Kyle is a die hard Red Sox fan. Kyle is the SID at Swarthmore.
