Back to Buckets

The NCAA Division III basketball season gets underway today and both the Shoremen and Shorewomen will be in action. Jason will be with the men's basketball team all weekend (see below) and bringing you updates from the Shoremen's two games at the Manhattanville Castle Classic.

I'll be headed to Lincoln University today for the Shorewomen's season opener against Rutgers-Camden at the James P. Richardson Memorial Tournament. I'll try to provide some in-game updates tonight (tip-off is at 5:00 p.m.), but I can't make any promises as Lincoln (like Chestertown) is outside of my mobile broadband coverage and I may or may not be able to pick up a sufficient standard PCS connection in the gym.

Well that's enough technical talk - on to basketball. The Shorewomen's opponent tonight with have a familiar face on the sidelines as Steve Kaneshiki, an assistant at Washington last year, is now an assistant coach at Rutgers-Camden. Tonight's game will be the first-ever meeting between Rutgers-Camden and Washington in women's basketball. In tonight's other semifinal game at the James P. Richardson Tournament, host Lincoln takes on Rosemont. The Shorewomen will play one of those two schools tomorrow in the consolation or championship game. Washington has never played Rosemont, but did post a 67-65 win over Lincoln on December 12th, 1998.

I'll be heading out on my relatively short (Lincoln is the second-closest Division III school to Washington after Wesley) road trip this afternoon. I'm looking forward to seeing Rob Knox, who has done an outstading job as the Lincoln SID and is an all-around great guy.
