Westchester County is the final resting place of one of baseball's all-time greatest managers, John J. McGraw. McGraw was the manager of the New York Giants from 1902-32. He won 10 NL pennants and three World Series. He is enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Good News from Lincoln U.

I've got a pretty good connection here in Manuel Rivero Hall, so I should be able to bring you scoring updates from tonight's women's basketball game against Rutgers-Camden.

We are just under an hour away from tip-off.

Back to Buckets

The NCAA Division III basketball season gets underway today and both the Shoremen and Shorewomen will be in action. Jason will be with the men's basketball team all weekend (see below) and bringing you updates from the Shoremen's two games at the Manhattanville Castle Classic.

I'll be headed to Lincoln University today for the Shorewomen's season opener against Rutgers-Camden at the James P. Richardson Memorial Tournament. I'll try to provide some in-game updates tonight (tip-off is at 5:00 p.m.), but I can't make any promises as Lincoln (like Chestertown) is outside of my mobile broadband coverage and I may or may not be able to pick up a sufficient standard PCS connection in the gym.

Well that's enough technical talk - on to basketball. The Shorewomen's opponent tonight with have a familiar face on the sidelines as Steve Kaneshiki, an assistant at Washington last year, is now an assistant coach at Rutgers-Camden. Tonight's game will be the first-ever meeting between Rutgers-Camden and Washington in women's basketball. In tonight's other semifinal game at the James P. Richardson Tournament, host Lincoln takes on Rosemont. The Shorewomen will play one of those two schools tomorrow in the consolation or championship game. Washington has never played Rosemont, but did post a 67-65 win over Lincoln on December 12th, 1998.

I'll be heading out on my relatively short (Lincoln is the second-closest Division III school to Washington after Wesley) road trip this afternoon. I'm looking forward to seeing Rob Knox, who has done an outstading job as the Lincoln SID and is an all-around great guy.

Men's Hoops Primer

Tomorrow I will be heading back to my native New York State for the Manhattanville Castle Classic. The Shoremen will take on St. Vincent at 6 pm. St. Vincent is the training camp home of the five-time Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers. The Bearcats are the newest member of the Presidents' Athletic Conference. This is the first meeting between the Shoremen and the Bearcats. WC will play either Kean or Manhattanville on Saturday night at either 6 or 8 pm. The Shoremen won the only meeting ever against Kean and have never played against Manhattanville. WC downed Kean 59-58 in the Wild Goose Classic Championship Game on December 12, 1992. I will be back with more blogs from Westchester County (the county just north of the Bronx) on Friday and Saturday.

Live from Lancaster

Greetings from Franklin & Marshall's Kunkel Aquatic Center. My mobile broadband connection is outstanding, so I'll be posting updates as much as I can.

The Shorewomen are looking for their first win over the Diplomats in five years, while the Shoremen are aiming for their first victory over F&M in 11 years.

Friday Night Swims

I'll be headed to Lancaster tomorrow for a rare Friday evening swim meet as the Shoremen (2-0) and Shorewomen (1-1) head to Franklin & Marshall for a Centennial Conference meet.

I'll try to provide a few updates during the meet if I can pick up a mobile broadband signal inside F&M's aquatic center.
